Senior executives of 150 Japanese companies operating in various sectors joined a Bulgaria-Japan Business Forum in Tokyo on Tuesday, attended by Bulgarian President Rumen Radev. The event took place during Radev’s official visit to Japan.
The forum was organized by the Bulgarian Embassy in Tokyo and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). It was opened by JETRO President Susumu Kataoka.
Kataoka recalled that he led a Japanese business delegation to Bulgaria in October 2024. He said that ever more Japanese companies are interested in doing business with Bulgaria and investing in the economy of Southeastern Europe. Bulgaria’s image in Japan is fairly recognizable and positive thanks to such products as yogurt, he said. Bulgaria is also known for its well-trained workers and technology companies.
Radev’s itinerary in Japan includes meetings with the management of JETRO, Toshiba, the Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) and Sumitomo Mitsui Bank. The President will tour the Hyakuri Air Base and the Riken national research institute.
On Monday, Japan’s Emperor Naruhito gave an audience for Radev. On Tuesday, the guest is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, with whom he will sign a declaration on promoting Bulgaria’s relations with Japan to the level of strategic partnership.
