Bulgarian weightlifter Carlos Nasar became world champion for the third time in his career. He did so in the new 94 kg category at the Weightlifting World Championship in Fjorde, after a shaky start and only fourth place after the snatch.

In the clean and jerk, however, the Bulgarian ranked first with successful attempts of 210, 219, and a world record of 222 kg, to collect a total of 395 kg.

The Olympic champion in the 89 kg category started with a successful attempt at 173 kg, but then failed at 178 kg in his second attempt. This was followed by an attempt at a world record in the clean and jerk at 182 kg, but this also proved unsuccessful. The only successful attempt at 173 kg left Nasar in fourth place in the first of the two movements.

Iran's Alireza Moeini Sedeh succeeded at the same weight of 182 kg and set a new world record. He had previously recorded successful attempts at 174 kg and 179 kg.

Second after the snatch was the other Iranian in the category, Ali Alipour, with 176 kg, while the bronze medal in the movement went to Colombia's Jokser Albornoz Quinto, who achieved 175 kg in group B.

Sedeh opened the second part of the competition with a successful attempt at 198 kg. The Iranian made this move to ensure that he would record a match. He then succeeded with 204 kg and 209 kg, putting Nasar in a position to attempt 219 kg if he wanted to go for gold.

The Bulgarian took to the podium immediately afterwards and managed 210 kg on his first attempt.

Alipour started with a good attempt at 211 kg, but fouled at 217 kg, and Nasar responded with a successful attempt at 219 kg, which put him in the lead.
