More than 200 people have registered for the Antea Run Half Marathon, which will take place near Sozopol on Saturday, one of the organizers, Veselin Dolapchiev, reported during a press conference. The competition organized in cooperation with Sozopol Municipality will be held for the first time in Bulgaria.
The runners will take off from the amphitheater in Sozopol shortly after 9 a.m. The route will pass through Camping Gradina and Chernomorets before finishing at Cape Emine. The free event has attracted various runners including two women over 60. Its main goal is to help extend the tourist season through sport.
Sozopol Mayor Tihomir Yanakiev said that his municipality has always supported initiatives that promote active lifestyle. Such events not only attract people but also show that the coast can be an attractive destination outside the peak summer season, he added.
A temporary traffic organization will be set up between Sozopol and Chernomorets between 9:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Motorists are urged to use alternative routes or to travel outside the event's time range.
