site.btaCabinet Approves Extension of Public Passenger Rail Contract until December 2026

The cabinet extended the public passenger rail services (PPRS) contract with state-owned operator BDZ on Wednesday. The deal between the Ministry of Transport and Communications and BDZ Passenger Services is now set to expire on December 12, 2026, the government press service reported, covering the cabinet’s weekly meeting.
On June 2, 2025, the ministry put up for public coordination the terms and conditions for awarding new PPRS contracts. According to the working schedule, the contracts are to be signed by the end of 2025 and each of them will take effect on December 13, 2026. The intervening period is intended for investor mobilization.
The extension of the contract with BDZ is aimed to avoid interruption of services until the PPRS reassignment procedure is over.
