More than 4,000 ha of agricultural land in the Yambol region were affected by hailstorms that struck the area less than two weeks ago, the Regional Directorate of Agriculture told BTA on Tuesday.

A total of 53 applications for financial aid have been submitted so far by local farmers whose crops sustained damage. The deadline for submitting applications for state aid is June 9.

The most severely affected crop is wheat, with damage reported on 2,200 hа. Other affected areas include 1,600 ha of sunflower, 450 ha of rapeseed, and approximately 100 ha of barley.

During a recent visit to the region, Agriculture Minister Georgi Tahov assured farmers that financial support is available. “For areas with 100% crop loss, we will compensate up to 80% of the damages, based on the technological cost charts for each crop,” he said.
