Italian consortium EXE Solar will invest EUR 6.5 million in a photovoltaic plant in Yambol, the southern region’s Governor, Georgi Chalakov, said Wednesday, emerging from a meeting with the investors. Construction works will begin in April 2023 and the plant is expected to become operational by the end of the same year.

The plant will be located in the vicinity of Yambol, on 1.1 ha purchased from a private owner for EUR 200,000. It will provide 50 new jobs for IT specialists and engineers, said Cristiano Camisani of the investor party. The cooperation of the Thracian University in Stara Zagora will also be sought, particularly its Faculty of Technology.

Yambol will have the advantage of an entirely ‘green’ plant not polluting the environment, the only one of its kind in the Balkans. Initially, the output capacity will be 300 MW, later to increase to 600 MW, project leader Plamen Komitov said.

The company intends to close the production cycle with a photovoltaic park, to which end it has declared its intention to invest in buying 60 ha of municipal terrain in the former army barracks at the Cherven Bair locality by Yambol.
