The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) – United Left will consistently advocate for the adoption of a socially oriented budget, whose guiding principle is the protection of the social rights of a wide range of citizens, BSP Chair and outgoing Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov said at a press conference after the meeting of the coalition council of the BSP - United Left on Friday.

“That is why some of our MPs stood shoulder to shoulder with the protesting trade unionists today,” he said. Zafirov congratulated the trade unions for their adequate and timely response, making it clear to Bulgarian society what exactly it will lose if the country enters the next budget year with the 2025 budget.

“It is very important for us that the budget be adopted,” Rumen Petkov, chairman of the ABV (Alternative for Bulgarian Revival) party, part of BSP-United Left, said. “Otherwise, there will be many affected groups, we are talking about a million to a million and a half Bulgarian citizens,” he added. “We are talking about the increase in the minimum wage and compensation for the second year of maternity leave,” Petkov stated.
