Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov sent an official letter to Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, regarding truck traffic interruptions at Bulgaria's border with Greece caused by blockades by protesting Greek farmers, Kradjov's ministry said in a press release on Friday.

The letter states that the strike is impeding traffic through key locations and along major transit corridors, and heavy goods vehicles waiting in South Central Bulgaria to enter Greece are merging with lines of trucks bound for Turkiye. Lines of over 30 kilometres have been reported on the Maritsa Motorway in recent days.

Karadjov calls on the European Commission to alert the relevant Greek authorities that these actions violate fundamental EU principles. He insists on immediate measures to enforce Regulation (EC) No. 2679/1998, which obligates member states to ensure the free movement of goods and prevent actions that threaten international transport.

The letter further states that all necessary steps must be taken to prevent future blockades on key international transport routes and at the border between Bulgaria and Greece.
