At a working meeting here on Thursday, Minister of Agriculture and Food Georgi Tahov informed Iliana Ivanova, the Bulgarian representative to the European Court of Auditors, that he intends to maintain the trend of sustainable and transparent absorption of funds under the European Union’s Common Agricultural Policy. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food quotes Tahov as saying at the meeting that the trust Bulgaria has earned at the European level is the result of consistent efforts and a responsible attitude towards public resources. According to him, this success is due to the expertise and dedication of those working in the system.

The discussion focused on the main points of the European Court of Auditors' Annual Report for 2024. According to this report, Bulgaria has made no errors in the absorption of EU funds in the fields of agriculture and natural resources for the second consecutive year.

Of the eight transactions audited in Bulgaria by the European Court of Auditors in 2024, none were found to have errors in the areas of natural resources and the environment. However, at the European level, the overall percentage in this area remains at 2.6%, which, while close to the acceptable threshold of 2%, indicates that efforts to enforce the rules more effectively must persist.

Tahov confirmed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food would maintain its consistent approach, continuing to inspire confidence in auditing bodies and control systems.

Ivanova congratulated Bulgaria on its achievements and noted that sustained improvements in accountability and the effectiveness of EU funds are positive signs of good governance in the sector. During the meeting, the two discussed opportunities for closer cooperation with the European Court of Auditors to ensure the transparent and efficient use of European agricultural funds.
