Vice President Iliana Iotova will open the celebration of Africa Day in downtown Sofia on May 27, the President's press secretariat said Friday.

Africa Day will be marked in the garden in front of the Ivan Vazov National Theatre with a music programme and a bazaar with traditional food, drinks, clothes, handmade accessories, and authentic gifts, the organizers said. All the organizers of the event - the embassies of the African countries of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, South Africa, and the honorary consulates of Ethiopia, Mauritius, and Seychelles in Bulgaria - will take part in the bazaar.

Entry is free.

Africa Day is celebrated annually around the world to mark the founding of the African Union, an organisation that has been seeking indigenous African solutions to continental problems for 60 years and develops a new concept each year. This year the theme of Africa Day is "The Acceleration of the African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation (AfCFTA), leading to the creation of an African common space of improved welfare and better quality of life for all African citizens". The event showcases Africa’s identity, unity, and cultural diversity.
