A concert by the Guards Representative Brass Band, conducted by Radi Radev, was held in Sofia on Saturday evening to mark Liberation Day, March 3. The event conveyed the message that freedom is not an endpoint but an ongoing responsibility. "March 3 reminds us that freedom is not an endpoint. It is a responsibility - responsibility to preserve memory, to nurture love for the homeland, and to be worthy heirs of our heroes. Let us carry Bulgaria not only in our hearts but in our daily lives," the message from the stage said.
Alongside the Guard Representative Wind Orchestra, which is part of the National Guards Unit, participants included the Children’s Choir of Bulgarian National Radio, Trakia Ensemble from Plovdiv, Pavlikeni Orchestra the of the Brotherhood 1884 Community Centre, performers and ensembles from the Philip Kutev National School of Folk Arts in Kotel, the National School of Folk Arts in the village of Shiroka Laka, the Lyubomir Pipkov National School of Music in Sofia, as well as the Representative Ensemble of the Bulgarian Armed Forces and actor and reciter Yanko Lozanov.
The host of the evening was actress Galina Dimitrova. “Freedom also has its unnamed fighters — those whose names are not in textbooks but are written into history through their self-sacrifice. Those who gave the most precious thing — their lives — so that Bulgaria might exist. We dedicate this part of the concert precisely to them — to all the unknown soldiers whose destinies are intertwined with the fate of the homeland,” she said.
“Freedom does not live only in historical chronicles; it lives in song. In the folk song that preserves the image of the mother, the beloved, the home. The song that gives birth to heroes, that sends sons into battle and awaits them with tears and hope,” Dimitrova added. She also spoke of the multifaceted Bulgarian spirit: “It is lyrical and heroic, sorrowful and festive — but always alive.”
The concert was held under the auspices of President and Commander-in-Chief of the Bulgarian Armed Forces Iliana Iotova, who sent flowers to the organizers and participants. Flowers were also received from National Assembly Chair Raya Nazaryan, caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov, and Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev.
Attending the event were caretaker Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov; Chief of Defence Admiral Emil Eftimov; Chair of the parliamentary Committee on Direct Participation of Citizens, Citizens’ Complaints and Interaction with Civil Society Rositsa Kirova; Major General Nikolay Rusev, Commander of the Air Force; Bulgarian News Agency Director General Kiril Valchev; Commander of the National Guards Unit Colonel Petar Kindalov; and representatives of the Youth Guard Detachments Association, among others.
