The Cabinet approved an agreement amending and supplementing the Agreement between the Governments of Bulgaria and Vietnam on the abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service/official passports, signed in Sofia on July 7, 2010.

Once the agreement is signed, visa requirements will be lifted for holders of diplomatic and service/official passports accredited in either of the two countries, as well as for members of their families.

In August 2025, Vietnam unilaterally introduced a visa-free regime for short-term tourist visits for citizens of Bulgaria and 11 other EU Member States.

Vietnam is an important partner of Bulgaria in the Asia-Pacific region, with which the country maintains long-standing relations of traditional friendship, mutual respect and cooperation in a wide range of sectors. It is also a key partner of the EU and the country in Southeast Asia with which the Union has concluded the largest number of agreements. Efforts are under way to elevate EU-Vietnam relations to the highest level - a comprehensive strategic partnership.
