Parliament on Wednesday adopted at first and second reading a bill ratifying the Protocol amending the Agreement between the governments of Bulgaria and Romania on cross-border police cooperation in criminal matters.

The protocol introduces changes to the bilateral agreement from 2009. It updates the competent authorities responsible for implementing the agreement on both the Bulgarian and Romanian sides. It also expands the grounds for conducting cross-border hot pursuit, which is one of the key forms of Schengen cooperation. Additionally, it optimizes the work of the joint working group responsible for monitoring the implementation of the agreement.

During the second reading, a proposal by Vazrazhdane for the law to take effect on January 1, 2028, was rejected.
