Vazrazhdane’s press service said on Sunday that the party has asked the European General Court in Luxembourg to annul Bulgaria’s entry into the euro area from January 2026, citing Stanislav Stoyanov, head of Vazrazhdane’s European Parliament delegation and leader of the Europe of Sovereign Nations party. Stoyanov said this move is another step in the party’s effort to preserve the Bulgarian lev in response to calls from citizens to oppose joining the euro.
When asked about the party’s legal submission, Stoyanov said that, in Vazrazhdane’s view, the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union had been violated. He explained that relevant regulations pertain to statistical reporting, and noted that this issue had prompted significant public debate. According to him, there was a widespread perception that the published statistics did not accurately reflect the actual situation. Stoyanov also stated that Vazrazhdane representatives had requested additional information about the methodologies and raw data, but the National Statistical Institute (NSI) refused to provide it, which, he argued, formed the basis for pursuing legal action.
In a radio interview on Sunday, Stoyanov also discussed the fifth motion of no confidence against the Bulgarian government.
“If there is no unity, there will be no success. In the end, MECh must explain why they are effectively protecting the government, and why they dismiss the water crisis as a sufficient reason to demand a vote of no confidence. This problem is getting worse. It has accumulated over years, even decades. Soon many regions will be facing water rationing, so we need urgent measures, long-term, targeted strategies for the years ahead, because the problem is deep-rooted,” Stoyanov said.
