The University of National and World Economy (UNWE) will be expanded with two new institutes: an institute for artificial intelligence (AI) in economics and an institute for enhancing research capacity in the nuclear industry and nuclear security. The decision was approved by the Council of Ministers following a proposal from the university, the Government Information Service said on Thursday.

The creation of the institute for artificial intelligence in economics reflects the growing role of AI as a key driver of economic growth, innovation, and competitiveness. The institute will bring together experts from economics, computer science, business, and the social sciences to develop cutting-edge solutions to contemporary challenges - from automating financial processes and forecasting economic crises to optimizing business strategies. The institute will include laboratories focused on machine learning, big data, and economic modeling; a technology transfer centre to connect science, business, and public administration; and an educational hub offering courses, short-term training, and certification programmes for both students and professionals.

The institute for enhancing research capacity in the nuclear industry and nuclear security will build upon the existing Centre for Nuclear Security Support. It will serve as a platform for specialized training, international seminars, and the development of policy and regulatory frameworks in nuclear security. The institute will collaborate with international partners including the International Atomic Energy Agency, the European Commission, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, among others.
