The parliamentary group of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC–DB) has submitted a motion for a hearing with the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior in relation to a recent assault on the police chief in Ruse, MP Atanas Atanassov told journalists in Parliament on Thursday.

He explained that the agenda of today's meeting of the parliamentary committee on internal security and public order does not include an item for hearing the minister, although this should have been done according to the rules.

“We insist on a hearing of the Secretary General, because, according to the rules, he is responsible for the entire operational activity of the ministry, and all regional police directors are directly subordinated to him,” Atanassov said.

“We want to hear from him who reported the incident to the Ruse Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry, who dispatched the patrols, what actions were taken, why the arrests were not carried out on the spot, and more,” he added.

Regarding the recent incursion of drones into Polish territory, Atanassov commented that provocations from Russia will continue, and for that reason Eastern European countries that are members of NATO and the EU must monitor the situation very carefully and respond at a state level.
