A primary outbreak of small ruminant pox has been detected at a livestock facility in the southern village of Chernooki, according to the press center of the regional administration. After laboratory testing of samples, 258 sheep were culled in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
Biosecurity measures and movement restrictions for animals have been implemented. All farms within the 3-km and 10-km quarantine zones have been inspected. At this stage, no signs of pox have been found in other settlements, the press center added. Mayors, livestock owners, and police authorities have been warned to enforce the prescribed control measures.
The administration told BTA that there were two other livestock facilities in Chernooki, which have been inspected and are currently free of the disease.
