A United States-registered Cirrus SR22 plane performed an emergency landing near Sandanski, Southwestern Bulgaria on Saturday. One of the two passengers in the four-seater plane sustained an ankle injury and was transported to a hospital by an air medical service helicopter. The other passenger and the pilot emerged unscathed.
Initially, the Transport Ministry described the incident as a “crash”, which occurred at 5:50 AM local time on Saturday.
Alexander Veskov, who heads the Mountain Rescue Service with the Bulgarian Red Cross, told BTA that after carrying the injured passenger to the hospital, the medical service helicopter went back to the scene of the incident and took the other two men out of the plane.
