Radoslav Yankov and Tervel Zamfirov qualified for the quarterfinals of the parallel giant slalom at the FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup in Bansko on Sunday. In the first round of the direct elimination heats, both Bulgarians achieved prestigious victories, eliminating two experienced high-class opponents.

Yankov defeated Italian Aaron March, who is second in the overall World Cup standings. Zamfirov, meanwhile, eliminated the three-time world champion and last year’s winner in Bansko, Andreas Prommegger.

Both Yankov and Zamfirov raced on the blue course of the slope, which, given the sunny weather above Banderitsa, is shaping up to be the faster one.

In the quarterfinals, Yankov will race against Saturday’s winner, Benjamin Karl of Austria, while Zamfirov will face the Italian Maurizio Bormolini.

Round of 16:
Blue course / Red course:

FABIAN OBMANN (AUSTRIA) – Tommy Rabanser (Italy)
Dario Caviezel (Switzerland) – ALEXANDER PAYER (AUSTRIA)
GIAN CASANOVA (SWITZERLAND) – Arnaud Gaudet (Canada)
YANNIK ANGENEND (GERMANY) – Stefan Baumeister (Germany)
Edwin Coratti (Italy) – BENJAMIN KARL (AUSTRIA)
RADOSLAV YANKOV (BULGARIA) – Aaron March (Italy)
TERVEL ZAMFIROV (BULGARIA) – Andreas Prommegger (Austria)
MAURIZIO BORMOLINI (ITALY) – Arvid Auner (Austria)

The names in caps lock proceed to next round.
