Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic Friday said that if the Venice Commission issues a negative opinion on the package of judicial laws recently adopted by Parliament despite criticism from the opposition and the professional community, Serbia will act accordingly, Serbian state media RTS reported. Vucic made this statement after talks with European Council President Antonio Costa on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

"We have been friends for many years [with Antonio Costa]. Of course, it was not an easy conversation. They are satisfied with the developments in the Serbian energy sector, they are satisfied with the adoption of the law on electoral rolls, with the formation of a commission. They are not satisfied with the changes in the judicial laws. I am not sure everyone knows exactly what this is about. I said, 'No problem'. If the Venice Commission comes up with a negative opinion, we will act accordingly," said the Serbian President.

He stressed that the government will do everything possible to ensure that Serbia progresses on its European path without jeopardizing its vital national interests.

"It is always good to have friends at the head of the European Council from whom you can get both advice and criticism, and also have the right to respond so that your position and opinion are heard," Vucic emphasized.
