The number of foreign students at the University of Food Technologies in Plovdiv has doubled in 2026, rising from 100 to 200, the university told BTA on Monday.
The figure is expected to increase further as admissions are still open. The university emphasized that international enrollment has been steadily growing, driven by its specialized academic programmes, student support services, and strong career prospects, in addition to competitive tuition fees.
More than 40% of international students come from EU countries, while others come from Türkiye, India, the US and China. They are enrolled in four English-taught programmes: Food, Gastronomy and Tourism, Industrial Engineering and Management, Biotechnology for Food and Health, and the master's programme Technology of Wine and Wine-Based Beverages.
Many foreign students also choose Bulgarian-language programmes across the university's three faculties, as the university offers a preparatory year with English and Bulgarian language training.
