A jubilant Tervel Zamfirov, the winner of the parallel giant slalom at the FIS Alpine Snowboard World Cup in Bansko on Sunday, said it was "a historic day for Bulgarian sport".

Zamfirov defeated Austria’s Fabian Obmann in the final, while in the small final, fellow Bulgarian Radoslav Yankov beat Germany’s Yannik Angenend. This marked the first time that two Bulgarians take the podium simultaneously at a World Cup event.

"Thank you for the congratulations. The conditions in Bansko were also excellent. We must also give credit to the crowd. Two Bulgarians on the podium is something that has never happened before, so it’s an incredible day for our country," said Zamfirov, who is also the world champion in parallel slalom.

"When I hear the roar of the crowd at the final, it gives me strength and makes me feel super motivated. In my head, there was only one thought: to finish first," he added.
