Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov will attend the European Council meeting in Brussels on June 26 and 27, the cabinet’s press service said here Wednesday.

The meeting will bring together the leaders of EU Member States to discuss key issues related to the war in Ukraine, security, foreign policy and the Union’s economic resilience.

Among the main topics will be the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine and the ways in which the EU can intensify efforts towards a sustainable and just peace. Leaders are also expected to consider Ukraine’s prospects for EU membership, and additional military and financial support.

The agenda will include discussion of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Middle East, focusing on the situation in Gaza and the risks of a wider regional escalation.

Top officials will also discuss enhancing European defence, boosting the competitiveness of the EU economy, managing migration, and relations with Eastern Partnership countries and the Western Balkans.

Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov led the Bulgarian delegation at the NATO Summit in The Hague, joined by Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev and Defence Minister Atanas Zapryanov. Upon arrival, Zhelyazkov was welcomed by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof.
