Christo is an exceptional phenomenon in contemporary art and, fortunately, he is a Bulgarian, Ivan Milushev, Blagoevgrad Art Gallery Director Ivan Milushev said on Wednesday. He was speaking during a presentation of LIK’s June issue, dedicated to the pioneering artist Christo (1935–2020) and his wife Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon (1935–2009). The event is taking place concurrently at the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Centre in Gabrovo, North Central Bulgaria and BTA’s MaxiM Hall in Sofia as well as the BTA national press clubs across Bulgaria and abroad.
He emphasized that with his art and ideas, Christo has largely changed contemporary fine art, adding that over the years, Christo has established himself as a real colossus in world contemporary art. Milushev also said that he was proud of the fact that Christo was Bulgarian.
