The Defence Ministry announced a two-day air-traffic-control exercise, scheduled for 25-26 June 2025, to test the readiness of Bulgaria’s air-defence network, the Ministry of Defence press service said on Wednesday.

The drill forms part of the annual training plan for Military Formation 44 510 (Sofia) and involves its subordinate unit, Military Formation 36 010 (Medkovets).

Crews and aircraft from the Third Air Base will generate live airborne targets, allowing 36 010’s operators to practise tracking and engagement procedures from their primary site under simulated combat conditions. The exercise is designed to sharpen the formations’ ability to supply low-altitude radar data and to validate the performance of their sensor systems.

Military Formation 36 010 last conducted a similar exercise in 2006.
