Bulgarian Formula 2 driver Nikola Tsolov said at the karting track near Haskovo on Saturday that the chances of reaching Formula 1 are always high, as it is just one step away from Formula 2, but it depends on him to perform well and maintain the same results, which is the key factor.
Tsolov added that it is still very early, with only one Formula 2 race held so far this season, so this will likely become clear towards the end of the year. According to him, following the two postponed races in Bahrain and Jeddah, the most intense part of the season is now beginning, with the next race in Miami and nine race weekends scheduled over the next 12 weeks.
Tsolov used the break to take part in a 12-hour endurance race at the track near Haskovo, which marks the first competition of the new season in the European Karting Endurance Championship and is part of the ninth season of Karting Events Bulgaria. The event features 67 teams and more than 200 drivers from 11 countries, making it the largest of its kind in Europe so far, organizer Nikolay Varbitsaliev said. Drivers will rotate hourly in the cockpit. Once again the race has a charitable cause, aiming to raise funds for the treatment of a child from Haskovo.
"I feel very good physically, although a significant physical and mental workload lies ahead," Tsolov said in response to a journalist’s question. "For me, today’s race is an opportunity to relax and have fun with friends before I begin even more intensive preparation, which never really stops," he added.
