The leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), Delyan Peevski, thanked his supporters after the end of election day in a statement distributed by the party’s press office.
MRF is expected to have 20 to 25 seats in the next Parliament, according to the parallel count, down from 29 in the outgoing Parliament.
"For MRF, elections have never been an end in themselves, but only a step toward achieving our cause in the best possible way - the people. Tonight I address you with great emotion to tell you that you are heroes, and I am proud of you for what you achieved in these elections, under these conditions," the statement reads.
According to Peevski, voters endured “unprecedented pressure" by the Interior Ministry and the entire caretaker government.
"I assure you that each and every one of you will be protected and that justice will prevail, and those responsible will be held accountable by all means of a democratic and lawful state," Peevski added, as quoted by the press office.
"Our path and our cause remain unchanged; people know they can always rely on us, and together we will succeed. Thank you, I love you!" he concluded.
