The Foreign Ministry said it is acting in full compliance with the law to ensure that as many Bulgarian citizens abroad as possible are able to cast their vote.

"In response to statements by political leaders, we emphasize that the decision to extend election day lies solely with the Central Election Commission," the ministry said.

It noted that the restriction on the number of polling stations outside the European Union was introduced by the National Assembly and is in the Election Code.

Voting abroad is proceeding smoothly, according to Rositsa Mateva, Deputy Chair and spokesperson of the Central Election Commission. Speaking at a briefing earlier today, she said there had been only one reported issue - an internal disagreement among members of a local election commission.

Mateva also confirmed that voting has already ended at six polling stations in Australia, two in New Zealand, and one in South Korea. Polls have also closed in Singapore and at the embassy in Tokyo, with all protocols submitted to the CEC.
