site.btaFire Destroys Over 40 Hectares of Wheat Fields in Tundzha Municipality

A fire has destroyed over 40 hectares of wheat fields near the village of Ovchi Kladenets in Yambol Region, Tundzha Mayor Stancho Stavrev told BTA on Wednesday.

He stated that firefighting teams from Topolovgrad, Radnevo and Yambol worked to extinguish the fire, which broke out Tuesday night. He stressed that the state needs to reopen the fire department in Tundzha Municipality as soon as possible.

"It took the firefighting team from Yambol almost an hour to reach the fire. Teams from Radnevo and Topolovgrad, from the neighboring regions of Stara Zagora and Haskovo, reacted faster. This once again showed the urgent need to restore the firefighting section in the village of Skalitsa in Tundzha Municipality," Stavrev pointed out.

He stressed that the passivity of the state is inexplicable, as there have already been several requests to open a firefighting section. "We are the only municipality in Yambol Region that does not have a fire department, and at the same time we are the largest municipality in Yambol Region by territory," he emphasized.
