Citizens protested in front of the Ministry of Interior building here on Wednesday evening, demanding the removal from office of outgoing Interior Minister Daniel Mitov, Interior Ministry Chief Secretary Miroslav Rashkov, Acting Prosecutor Genereal Borislav Sarafov, and the heads of the National Police and the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime.
The protest was organized on Facebook by the BOEC Association and was not coordinated with Sofia Municipality. The event was titled, "No more corpses, no more lies! Mitov and Sarafov out!" There was increased police presence in the area.
The protest began with a minute of silence in memory of those who died in the Petrohan case. According to the protesters, the institutions have been silent about the case for eight days, and the Ministry of Interior is manipulating the situation with controlled suggestions.
Addressing the protesters, Georgi Georgiev of BOEC said: "Instead of counting convictions, we are counting corpses. The only thing the Interior Ministry can do is carry out the orders of its masters and corrupt elections. It cannot protect you, it cannot solve crimes, it cannot find murderers, but it can protect them." According to him, no one trusts the Interior Ministry and the prosecution service anymore; the solution to this problem is to remove the entire professional and political leadership, including Sarafov, and replace them with people who have public trust to conduct a new investigation.
The words "Mitov, shame on you!" were projected onto the facade of the Ministry.
