Vice President Iliana Iotova addressed representatives of the Bulgarian community with whom she spoke in Krakow on Wednesday. “You will always find support and help from me and President Rumen Radev,” she said. Among the participants in the meeting were also the director of the Krakow branch of the Bulgarian Sunday School “Dora Gabe” Wanda Stempniak-Mincheva and teachers.
“Bulgarian schools abroad are becoming a spiritual centre for the Bulgarian community. They maintain the Bulgarian identity,” Iotova said. She presented the school with books of Bulgarian classics.
The Vice President especially thanked the Honorary Consul of Bulgaria, Wieslaw Nowak, for his support for the Bulgarian school and for all the initiatives related to the Bulgarian community and Bulgaria. Nowak was awarded in 2024 by Head of State Rumen Radev with the President's Badge of Honour for his contribution to the development of bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Poland. The activities of the Bulgarian community are actively supported by the Bulgarian Ambassador in Warsaw, Margarita Ganeva.
Representatives of the dance group “Iglika”, whose members are mainly Poles, also participated in the meeting with the Vice President. The idea for the folklore group, which sings in Bulgarian and dances Bulgarian folk dances, came from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, where Bulgarian studies have a long tradition. Iotova honoured the ensemble with the vice-presidential badge of honour in recognition of its promotion of Bulgarian folklore and traditions in Poland and abroad. The Vice President promised to assist “Iglika” in making contacts with folklore groups in Bulgaria and abroad.
