Christo's connection with Gabrovo has always been part of his desire to challenge not only himself, because he was in harmony with himself, but also everything around him, and most of all he sought to send messages to humanity, Gabrovo Mayor Tanya Hristova said on Wednesday during the presentation of LIK's June issue, dedicated to the pioneering artist Christo (1935–2020) and his wife Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon (1935–2009). The event took place at the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Centre in Gabrovo (North Central Bulgaria).
"I congratulate BTA for dedicating an entire issue of LIK magazine to Christo and Jeanne-Claude, who were born on the same date, namely on June 13," she pointed out, noting that Christo was born in Gabrovo and that a person cannot choose the place where he is born as it always remains a part of a person.
"Christo never hid where he was born. Gabrovo was always a part of his life, his thought," Hristova recalled, adding that the idea of a centre dedicated to Christo was born as an absolutely civic initiative in 1992. "People then recognized the importance of Christo both for his hometown and for Bulgaria, they were the main driving force for this," she emphasized.
"What will happen and is happening in Gabrovo is an incredible opportunity to do the most important thing that Christo leaves behind, namely to enable Christo's talent and work to find their space and for Bulgaria to become part of global processes," Hristova stated.
