The government will not allow price gouging, Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said Tuesday. She was speaking to reporters in Veliko Tarnovo, where she attended a forum on the economic progress in Northern Bulgaria. She stated that anyone who has "such thoughts and plans" regarding the country's membership in the eurozone should be aware of this.
"The Bulgarian government is planning measures against price gouging. We are working hard in this direction, you see that the National Revenue Agency, the Competition Protection Commission and the Consumer Protection Commission have joined forces," she emphasized.
"After June 30, we will have final information on the implementation of the budget for the half-year," Petkova said, adding that the programme for municipalities, set out in the 2025 Budget Act, is worth BGN 1.65 billion, of which BGN 750 million are provided for in the budget of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, while up to BGN 900 million are financed through the Bulgarian Development Bank.
"We believe that this resource, based on the submitted requests of the municipalities, will be sufficient at this stage," Petkova concluded.
