Participating in the presentation of a progress report on the implementation of the cabinet’s governance programme at a news briefing at the Council of Ministers building on Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov said that the construction of the National Children's Hospital has been accelerated. The scope of screening for socially significant diseases has been expanded, along with prenatal and neonatal screenings. He added that three branches of emergency medical services have been modernized and put into operation, and five new all-terrain ambulances have been delivered to hard-to-reach areas.

Karadjov said that salaries in the healthcare system, including the salaries of those working in emergency care, have been increased.

Regulatory changes have been made to expand the scope of the specialized electronic system for tracking and analyzing medicinal products listed in the Positive Drug List. With the adoption of the National Health Insurance Fund budget, conditions have been created for subsidizing pharmacies in remote and hard-to-reach areas.

Financial support has been provided to 170 young doctors specializing in medical fields with the greatest shortage. The national programme for the prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases is ready, and new national programs are being introduced for prevention and for the training of specialists in child and school healthcare, he continued.

Karadjov also announced the delivery of two more helicopters for air emergency medical assistance, bringing the total to three, with two more expected by the end of the year.

Contracts have been signed and construction has begun on all 18 facilities planned under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan within the psychiatric care system. Contracts have also been signed for the delivery of oncology and radiotherapy diagnostic equipment to 14 hospitals. These contracts include the installation of 10 new linear accelerators and three cyclotron complexes. Additional equipment is also expected for 36 hospitals across the country with paediatric clinics.

Finally, a contract has been signed for the development of a national digital platform for medical diagnostics, which will enable the exchange of patients’ imaging studies, the Deputy PM added.
