Vice President Iliana Iotova commented on the air of BNT Saturday's remarks by Prime Minister Nikolay Dekov on the protests of grain producers regarding lifting the ban on Ukrainian agricultural products. Iotova equated Denkov calling grain producers in Bulgaria "terrorists" to a resignation.
"All my work in a European institution has taught me that one should think a lot before speaking, especially when one uses qualifications and holds one of the highest positions in the state," noted Iotova.
She noted that an easier solution was to find a consensus option for importing the grain, through a preliminary analysis, as other countries have done. Iotova ragued that t is very to use the EU as an excuse, instead of preparing a comprehensive position with arguments in defence of the country in front of the European partners.
The Vice President said that many politicians, and not only ones from the new generation, see the Bulgarian Constitution as a consumer basket, "texts that will serve theirpersonal interests". She urged against this type of political and public debauchery.
Iotova also noted that the government came with a bid for a serious judicial reform, which did not happen.
Regarding changes in the powers of the President, Iotova said that this shows the desire of the rulers for total dominance in Bulgaria's political system.
Iotova noted that President Radev once again raised the subject of Schengen, which, according to her, had been forgotten for a long time due to various reasons. All the efforts of all the authorities in Bulgaria must be harnessed in order for the country to enter to Schengen, she said.
Iotova commented on EC President Ursula von der Leyen's call that its time for Bulgaria and Romania to enter Schengen, describing it as old news from 13 years ago. Bulgaria had fulfilled all the technical criteria, the requirements for Schengen, back in 2011, from then on there have been new conditions, unfortunately, not without mistakes on the part of the Bulgarian diplomacy, Iotova added.
The Vice President expressed hope that the Republic of North Macedonia will fulfill the conditions to start their negotiations for membership in the European Union.
