site.btaWater Is Released from Two Major Reservoirs in Kardzhali Region After Thursday’s Rainfall
The two major reservoirs along the Arda River in the Kardzhali region, Studen Kladenets and Kardzhali, are being released in a controlled manner through their spillways, Regional Governor Nikola Chanev to BTA.
He added that the measure has been in place for several hours, noting that inflow to both reservoirs is also decreasing. Of the four gates at the Kardzhali Reservoir, two are open, while at the Studen Kladenets Reservoir, five of the nine gates are open.
The release is due to the increased water volume in both reservoirs following Thursday’s rainfall in the Kardzhali region for which the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology had issued a Code Red warning.
On Thursday, Chanev said that the two large reservoirs in the region were 95% and 96% full and that the National Electricity Company, owner of the two reservoirs, maintains constant contact with the regional administration and promptly reports any actions it takes.
