Vazrazhdane's claim that the euro would be adopted at a rate other than the fixed rate has now been proven false, said Yavor Bozhankov, MP for the Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria parliamentary group, in a statement in Parliament on Thursday.
This is the first week that Bulgaria has used the single European currency, and every government that has contributed to this national achievement will be remembered in history, said Bozhankov.
Bozhankov noted that in 2022, then President Rumen Radev declared that adopting the euro would bring significant economic benefits, defining Bulgaria's membership of the eurozone as a strategic national goal. Last year, on Europe Day of all days, Radev called for a referendum against the euro, said the MP describing it as an attempt by the highest state institution to violate the social contract.
The MP addressed Vazrazhdane with the words: "From this week until the end of your lives, you will use the single European currency bearing Bulgarian national symbols".
