A briefing by the Euro Coordination Centre will take place today at 11:00 a.m. in the Council of Ministers building, the Government press service announced.
This will be the Centre’s second report to the media, following its first briefing on January 6, when the head of the Euro Coordination Centre in Bulgaria, Vladimir Ivanov, announced that violations had been found in about 7% of all commercial establishments inspected in connection with the introduction of the single European currency.
Between January 1 and 5, the Consumer Protection Commission carried out 4,000 inspections, issued 275 administrative penalty notices, 70 penalty orders, and concluded 100 agreements. The penalties imposed so far are minimal, as these are first-time violations, Ivanov said at the time.
The percentage of penalties imposed during inspections related to the introduction of the euro gives grounds to conclude that the process is developing well and that there are no mass violations, said Hristo Markov, Executive Director of the National Revenue Agency.
The first meeting of the Regional Coordination Centre in connection with the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria in the Sofia City district is forthcoming. Its members include representatives of Sofia Municipality, the Ministry of Interior, the National Revenue Agency, the Consumer Protection Commission, the Customs Agency, Bulgarian Posts, the State Agency for National Security, and the Sofia City Regional Administration.
