The past year will go down in history as 12 turbulent months that brought both despair and hope for the Bulgarian people, said Vazrazhdane party leader Kostadin Kostadinov in a video address on Facebook. He argued that many times “free Bulgarians” striving for an independent state were placed at a disadvantage by the ruling coalition, but that toward the end of the year, mass nationwide protests succeeded in sending the government “into history.”
Looking ahead to 2026, Kostadinov said Bulgarians are once again facing what he described as "a final historic chance at a time when the world is changing, borders are being redrawn and old regimes are collapsing".
According to him, Bulgaria has a “golden opportunity” to regain full freedom and independence, which he defined as having its own currency, a strong army and a prosperous, educated population.
He added that the upcoming snap elections in 2026 could allow Bulgarians not only to teach future generations how independence is defended, but also to "show Europe how a seemingly subdued nation can stand up and reclaim its freedom".
Kostadinov called for taking the country’s fate into people's own hands, rebuilding the state, creating a new social contract and restoring trust in institutions, expressing confidence that 2026 could become the year of a new Bulgarian Revival.
