site.btaDuring Borissov's Governance, Lukoil Paid No Corporate Tax, President Radev Says
President Rumen Radev told journalists on Tuesday “I want to clearly state that Lukoil did not pay a single lev of corporate tax during Boyko Borissov's entire governance.” Radev was speaking on the sidelines of the annual conference AFCEA TechNET Sofia 2025, organized by AFCEA Sofia Chapter.
“Let me remind you that Lukoil paid 214 million for the first time during Galab Donev's caretaker government because the government was in place and demanded that this tax be paid,” Radev said.
He added that after the end of Donev's caretaker cabinet, no new corporate tax payments by the company had been registered.
Galab Donev is the longest-serving caretaker prime minister in Bulgaria, from August 2022 to June 2023. He was appointed to the post by President Rumen Radev, after all attempts at government formation failed after the fall of the Continue the Change Kiril Petkov-led government.
On November 14, the Bulgarian government appointed Rumen Spetsov as special commercial administrator of Lukoil's entities in Bulgaria, to oversee the operation of the refinery in Burgas after November 21, when the US sanctions come into force, and, if necessary, prepare the sale of the Russian energy giant's assets in Bulgaria.
