site.btaCC-DB’s Ivaylo Mirchev Criticizes Varna MEC’s Sunday Meeting as Attempt to Remove Mayor Kotsev

Ivaylo Mirchev, Co-Chair of Yes, Bulgaria and MP from the Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) coalition, said at a news conference at the BTA National Press Club in Burgas that he was surprised by the decision of the Municipal Election Commission (MEC) in Varna to convene an extraordinary meeting on Sunday. According to Mirchev, the purpose of the session is clearly to remove Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, a CC member, from office.

Mirchev said that he, his party colleagues, and coalition partners learned of the planned meeting late on Friday.

According to him, CC-DB has no doubt that the move is orchestrated by the ruling duo of GERB Chair Boyko Borissov and Movement for Rights and Freedoms – New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski. He argued that “the entire operation” aims to oust Kotsev and trigger snap elections in Varna.

Mirchev added that Yes, Bulgaria is calling on citizens to gather in front of the sports hall in Varna on Sunday, where the MEC meeting will take place.
