Romanian President Nicusor Dan, in a post on social network X, said that Russia has demonstrated again that it is behaving aggressively. Dan reacted on Wednesday after Poland mobilized its own and NATO air forces to shoot down drones following a Russian airstrike on western Ukraine.

“Russia has demonstrated again, also through the flagrant violation of Polish airspace last night, that it is behaving aggressively, constantly testing our limits and defying all our efforts to achieve peace. This is unacceptable, Russia must be stopped and pressured to come to the negotiation table. Romania stands in full solidarity with Poland, our Ally and strategic partner. We are united to make NATO and especially the Eastern Flank, from the Baltic to the Black Sea, more secure. We will also continue to fully support Ukraine and its brave people who continue to be under merciless attack every day,” President Dan’s post on X said.

Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Toiu also reacted.

“We are concerned about the unacceptable violation of the airspace of our ally and strategic partner Poland. We reaffirm our full solidarity with Poland and support close coordination among allies to adopt appropriate measures. These violations are becoming a pattern for Russia’s disregard of sovereignty and international law.” Foreign Minister Toiu said on X.

On Wednesday morning Romania activated two of its F-16 fighter jets after its Defence Ministry radars detected a group of Russian drones on the other side of the country’s eastern border with Ukraine. No incursions into Romanian airspace were detected, the government said.
