North Macedonia's Ambassador Agneza Rusi Popovska visited the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday to receive a protest note in connection with a serious criminal act committed against a citizen of the Republic of North Macedonia identifying himself as Bulgarian and Secretary of the Tsar Boris III Club in Ohrid.

Ambassador Popovska spent less than an hour at the Ministry.

On 19 January 2023, the citizen was assaulted and sustained serious physical injuries. He was admitted to a hospital, the Foreign Ministry wrote in its position paper.

The Foreign Ministry called on the authorities in the Republic of North Macedonia to take immediate and effective measures to combat hate crimes against Bulgarians.
