Due to strike action in Greece, there may be disruptions to the passage of both passenger cars and goods-carrying vehicles via all border crossings with Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Border Police reported on its website on Saturday.

Traffic is normal through all checkpoints on Bulgaria's borders with Turkiye, North Macedonia and Serbia and the crossings on the border with Romania.

Earlier in the day, the Greek newspaper Kathimerini reported that protesting Greek farmers will finalize their demands ahead of a meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday, January 13. Farmers say they do not have high expectations for the meeting but hope for some level of satisfaction before returning to the blockades to decide their next steps.

Greek farmers began their protest actions with road blockades at the end of November 2025. The main cause of their discontent was the delay in paying agricultural subsidies due to a corruption scandal at the payment agency OPEKEPE.
