Greece will allocate an additional EUR 8.8 billion in 2026 for early repayment of loans from the bailout programmes (bilateral intergovernmental loans under the Greek Loan Facility, GLF), Greek state television ERT reported on Tuesday. The government's goal is to have these obligations fully repaid by 2031, ten years ahead of the originally agreed maturities.

According to the programme for the new year announced by the Public Debt Management Agency, Greece will raise around EUR 8 billion from international financial markets to cover part of its financing needs. By comparison, approximately EUR 7.5 billion was raised from the markets this year.

On December 15, Greece repaid European loans worth EUR 5.287 billion, granted under the First Memorandum with the Eurozone and the International Monetary Fund in 2010, at the beginning of the Greek financial crisis.
