site.btaSmuggling of Medicines Worth Some EUR 270,000 from Turkiye Foiled at Istanbul Airport


Security teams at Istanbul Airport have thwarted an attempt to illegally export a large quantity of medicines, TRT Haber reported. During a police operation targeting pharmaceutical smuggling, authorities inspected seven suitcases belonging to five outbound passengers.
The search uncovered cancer, anaemia, liver disease and other medicines in 134 boxes, 167 solutions, 36 injectable packs, 900 capsules and 7,200 ampoules valued at 12 million Turkish lira (about EUR 270,000). Some drugs were hospital-use only or improperly stored.
All five suspects were detained, including three foreign nationals whose nationalities were not disclosed.
