Former Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) member Magdalena Lazarova has been nominated for the position of Deputy Prosecutor General. The proposal is set to be discussed at the upcoming meeting of the Prosecutors Chamber of the SJC on April 30.

The nomination for Lazarova’s appointment comes from acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov. Lazarova is currently a judge at the Sofia Appellate Court.

On April 16, Deputy Prosecutor General Elena Karakasheva tendered her resignation. She has requested to return to her previous position as a judge at the Supreme Court of Cassation, where she served before being appointed Sarafov's deputy.

At present, Vanya Stefanova is the only one holding the position of Deputy Prosecutor General. She was appointed to the position on January 9, 2025.
