Pope Francis was a great person and a champion of peace. He dedicated his life to the fight for world peace, said Ivan Ivanov, representative of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in Rome, on the air of  Nova TV.

"He managed to consolidate absolutely all Christians and not only them,  all religious leaders, in the direction of resolving conflicts around the world. He fought for this until the end. In fact, he dedicated his life to the fight for world peace, continuing this line from his predecessors," said Ivanov.

The death of Pope Francis was announced by the Vatican in a video message earlier on Monday. Eighty-eight-year-old Francis, whose birth name was Jorge Mario Bergoglio, was elected pope on March 13, 2013.
