site.btaInterior Ministry Suspends Access to Websites Offering MP3 Downloads

The General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime suspended access to 12 websites on Thursday in an operation to prevent the illegal use of copyrighted music, the Ministry of Interior reported here on Friday. The operation was carried out in coordination with Europol under the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT).

An alleged owner of the websites has been identified. Before the sites' suspension, visitors would be able to download songs as MP3 files. Documents and devices have been seized as evidence.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Sofia Regional Prosecution Office.
