A new pension bill is being considered by the Romanian government at its sitting on Tuesday. It provides for a minimum contributory service of 15 years for women and men and 35 years of full contributory service. Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu wants the new law to come into effect on January 1, 2024, Romanian media reported.

The legislative initiative also includes an increase in the retirement age for women to 65, with the possibility of maintaining activity until the age of 70, writes the Romanian newspaper Adeverul. According to the publication, this measure should enter into force from 2035.

Women who have given birth and raised children up to the age of 16 benefit from a reduction in the retirement age by 6 months for each child, and for raising two children the age is reduced by one year, for four children - by two years, for six children – by three years. The minimum contributory amount will increase depending on the development of life expectancy in Romania.

As for early retirement, it can be obtained up to 5 years before reaching the standard retirement age, if the person has 5 years more than the full insurance service (35 years), i.e. the early retirement pension can be obtained if the person has worked for 40 years, the Adeverul newspaper also writes.

Upon reaching retirement age, the pension is calculated automatically.
